Loving God, you show yourself to those who are without help
and make your home with the poor and the weak of this world.
Warm our hearts with the fire of your Spirit
that we may accept the challenges of these health concerns.
Strengthen those who care for the sick,
enlighten those doing research for the alleviation of the disease,
protect the healthy, calm the frightened,
encourage those in pain, comfort the dying and console the bereaved. Amen.
Did you know?
Malaria, together with HIV/AIDS and TB, is one of the major public health challenges undermining
development in the poorest countries in the world. Malaria kills an African child every 30 seconds.
Many children who survive an episode of severe malaria may suffer from learning impairments or
brain damage. Pregnant women and their unborn children are also particularly vulnerable to malaria,
which is a major cause of perinatal mortality, low birth weight and maternal anemia.
Target 1:
Halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS
Target 2:
Achieve, by 2010, universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS for all those who need it
Target 3:
Halt and begin to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases
