St. Julie's quote "In the schools teach whatever is necessary to equip the students for life" inspired the creation of a virtual school system that would unite the educational mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame throughout the world. I believe that if St. Julie were alive today, she would have a laptop computer and would communicate with the Notre Dame schools through the Internet.
The goal of the Notre Dame Virtual School is to facilitate collaboration among sponsored ministries of the Sisters of Notre Dame and enable sharing of resources among teachers and students. My hope is that the Notre Dame Virtual School collaboration will deepen our sense of sponsorship and provide opportunities for students and faculty from diverse cultures to participate together in meaningful educational experiences.
As a Sister of Notre Dame, I see my life in mission as traveling from one piece of "holy ground" to another; and now I travel into cyberspace. My ministry in education spans more than three decades in three different dioceses in Massachusetts. I have served in urban, suburban, and inner-city schools, and these experiences have provided me with a deep appreciation of our diversity. My responsibilities included teaching in several academic disciplines and serving in a variety of administrative roles—most recently as a principal in an urban high school near Boston. My work in teaching and administration has taught me the power of technology as a tool to empower individuals to make a difference in their lives and enable them to meet the needs of the 21st century. |
