MAILBOX
Notre Dame Virtual School primarily uses the FirstClass Collaborative platform to provide its online learning environment. FirstClass offers a safe Intranet site that is monitored to ensure users’ security. Through the Mailbox, NDVS users can send and receive secure email to other NDVS students and faculty.
NDVS NEWS
Through NDVS News, students and faculty can access a number of resources, including monthly prayers services, calendars, and newsletters.
NDVS CLASSES AND PROJECTS
NDVS offers students the opportunity to take online classes and projects. Students take the classes for many reasons: to have an online educational experience, for extra credit, as an extra activity, to prepare for college. Two of the most popular classes are Women in America and Popular Poets. Online projects run for four weeks and are incorporated into the curriculum.
Some of the most popular online projects include the Influenza of 1918, Poet’s Voice, St. Julie Billiart, Bioethics, and Dorothy Stang SND.
NDVS CONNECTION
NDVS Connection is where students and teachers can access the many organizations in which NDVS holds a membership. These include Education for Justice, International Society for Technology Educators (ISTE), Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and many others. Professional Development opportunities for teachers are also available on Connection.
LEARNING WEBS
Learning Webs and Units are online activities that enhance the traditional curriculum. Designed for students aged 4-18, Learning Webs use the Internet to integrate technology, curriculum and learning goals. They can be used for individual classes, projects or homework assignments. NDVS offers over 500 learning webs in a wide variety of subject areas and class levels.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Through NDVS, students and faculty have access to a number of projects sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and their schools. In Special Projects, users can link directly to projects such as African Photovoltaic Project, Dorothy Stang SND, United Nations Millennium Development Goals, eLanguages and other NDVS resources.
