Notre Dame Virtual School uses the FirstClass Collaborative platform to provide the online learning environment. The FirstClass platform offers a safe Intranet site that is monitored to ensure users' security. NDVS NEWS
Through NDVS News, students and faculty can access a number of resources, including monthly prayer services, calendars, and newsletters. Look for resources specific to each month's "theme" as well as resources provided by the United Nations, Environmental Classroom, Global Messenger,and Going Green.
NDVS CLASSES
NDVS offers students the opportunity to take online classes and projects. Classes run for 12 weeks and supplement the curriculum. Students take the classes for many reasons: to have an online education experience, for extra credit, as an extra activity, to prepare for college. Two of the most popular classes are Women in America and Popular Poets. Online projects run for four weeks and are incorporated into the curriculum. Some of the most popular online projects include Influenza of 1918, Poet's Voice; St Julie Billiart, Bioethics, and Dorothy Stang SND.
NDVS CONNECTION
NDVS Connection is an online message board where students can post information about their schools, share new ideas, and request a variety of online resources - e-Pals, tutoring, technology support. Through the Connection, students participate in the latest Web 2.0 activities including wikis, blogs, web conferencing etc.
LEARNING WEBS
Learning Webs and Units are online activities that enhance the traditional curriculum. Designed for students aged 4-18, Learning Webs use the Internet to integrate technology, curriculum and learning goals. They can be used for individual classes, projects or homework assignments. NDVS offers over 200 learning webs in a wide variety of subject areas.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Through NDVS, students and faculty have access to a number of projects sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and their schools throughout the world. In Special Projects, users can link directly to projects such as African Photovoltaic Project, Dorothy Stang SND, United Nations Millennium Goals, The Big Hope, and ESOL Distance Learning. New projects are added regularly. Users can also link to NotreDameOnline, an online educational resource provided for Notre Dame Schools.
